With all the attention on Fairey I thought it a good time to remind everyone that there’s still tons of public art in Cincinnati to be enjoyed.
One of the lesser know maybe is the Cincinnati Venus by Jim Dine, a Cincinnati native. He has done a series of these Venus sculptures including a huge one at the entrance to the Federal Courthouse in Cleveland.
A contemporary of Warhol and Lichenstein, he’s known for his “pop art” and his piece titled Hair inspired the musical Hair.
Installed in the late 80′s this was near the heigth of Dine’s appropriation art.
Art itself is the subject of this type of art.
