Cincy’s Cat House

Jan 21, 2010 by

I’m the new kid in town here, my wife and I relocated to Northside last Spring from New Orleans. One of our early bits of exploring was a trip to the Cincy Zoo, where my lovely wife fell in love with a cute little critter called a sand cat.

Since then I’ve discovered that not only does the Cincy Zoo have one of the best “Cat Houses” around, but they also have a pretty vibrant social media presence. Thanks that combo I am able to bring you a quick video about these wee beasties as one of the zoo keepers shows off the new sand cat kittens.

  1. *gush*!! if you like these kitties, you need to check out the fishing cats!
The Director of the Zoo, Thane Maynard, is a local treasure – he even has a nationally syndicated audio podcast, The 90-Second Naturalist…

Yeah, we have four. Blue Point Simaese, Calico, Tortie, and a trly ancient long haired alley cat.

I’ll have to look into Maynard and see about doing an interview for CV. Thanks for the heads up!

    Those kittens look vicious! Yikes!

  4. I’ve had cats for over 20 years (aficionado, familiar with behavior & socialization problems –1 cat has FH Syndrome–& helping with that, as hobby, not profession) but never HEARD of wild Arabian Sand cats until yesterday morning on radio. This video is adorable, Loki & better than one I found online yesterday. We have 4 as well, two are mine, two are my house mates. We’ve cat beds/ toys/trees/boxes/paper bags to prove it. Also outside insulated home for a feral stray we used to feed.

Sorry to blather on “KathieLeeGifford” of cat moms.

I’ll second the Fishing Cats–they were truly entertaining when I last saw them.

BTW, I just found your site and find it very informative. Keep up the good work!

Hey Amy, thanks for the kind words, we try. As to just finding it, you’re actually an early adopter in this case. CIncyVoices just went online this month.
